You have a couple of options when you have a long layover. For me, I choose to stay…and sleep.

That’s right. But it’s not what you think. I didn’t sleep on a bench or find a quiet corner. I stayed in a hostel that is divided by sleeping capsules. In fact, if I am going to stay in a hostel, that is the ONLY kind I will stay in. It provides me with peace of mind, quiet, and privacy that is essential for me. It even has reception 24/7, great for a late arrival or early departure.

When making your reservations you can choose between a 6-hour, 9-hour, or 12-hour stay; all budget-friendly priced.

I landed around 10:30 PM local time, gathered my luggage and proceeded to CapsuleTransit at klia2 for my 10-hour layover. Not only is everyone allotted a pod of their own but the hostel is made of various shipping containers that gives an urban industrial vibe.

The hostel is multiple levels, but you store your luggage outside the entrance in your assigned locker. Don’t worry, it is sized large enough to fit your luggage.

It has common areas, bar lounge, and private shower stalls. There are even some capsules that can fit up to three people.

Lounge Area

After scoping the place out, I proceeded to walk around the empty airport, because why not, and then grab some food. And boy am I glad that I did.

Time for Food!

I decided to try NZ Curry House and ordered what I thought was a simply fried rice with crispy chicken. Both were selected because I could easily point to them. They were the most flavorful food I have ever tasted. Yes, they were spicy, but not enough to overpower the overall taste.

I finished my food and walked away only $3 USD poorer.

Off I went to catch an extended nap before my next flight to Singapore!

Location: Kuala Lumpur Airport

Pro Tip!

If you feel like you are claustrophobic, make a reservation for a capsule that fits three people.
