As a solo traveler new to Madrid, Spain, I was eager to experience the city’s vibrant food scene and immerse myself in its food culture late into the night.

The atmosphere was lively and inviting, with locals and tourists alike gathering around the bar to chat and enjoy a drink. Just work your way in a find a spot, the waiters are happy to scope out a spot for you.
I ordered a plate of garlic shrimp, one of the bar’s best known dishes, and it did not disappoint. The shrimp were smaller than I ever expected, but perfectly cooked and the garlic and olive oil sauce was absolutely delicious. I paired it with a glass of chilled sangria and savored every bite.
But the best part of the experience was the vibe at the bar. As a solo traveler, it can be daunting to eat alone in a new place, but at La Casa del Abuelo, I felt part of the crowd. The staff were welcoming and chatty and even breaking out into song!
