While in Spain I decided to take advantage of it’s ideal location to visit Northern Africa. What better way to add a new continent to my list for under 100 euros. I decided to use RyanAir as it had a direct flight and as I mentioned a very low price point. Just be aware there are a lot “upgrades” offered, at a low price of course, but they do add up.

Let me outline my experience and how to keep those pesky upcharges to a minimum.

Unbelievable Base Rates

If there’s one thing RyanAir nails, it’s offering jaw-droppingly low base rates. But once you start the purchasing process you will notice that that base cost, didn’t even include seat selection. And no there is not an option to opt out of seat selection. So, what ever base price you see, know that it will be at a minimum 10 euros more.

Upcharges

Now, let’s talk in more detail about these upcharges. There’s an upcharge for not checking in two hours before the flight, and even a 30-euro charge for printing your boarding ticket. Then there’s the more known charges, such as checked baggage fees for weights in my opinions are on the low side. But don’t worry, for another fee you can upgrade the weight of your luggage. So make sure to pack light, for my trip I only brought a bookbag, but remember that it shouldn’t be full of items. I made sure to pack my clothes in a vacuum sealed bag and to bring the pump for the return flight! s

Boarding Experience

To save costs, RyanAir opts to board the flight on the tarmac. This means once you scan you ticket at the gate you then walk down the skywalk and wait in line. Usually at least 20 minutes. Everyone is then led downstairs that leads them to outside. Once outside, you then board the plane, by going up a flight of stairs. This may seem like a smooth process, but it is a lot of hurry up and wait. Not to mention some people board on the wrong end of the plane which just causes a collision of people when trying to find their seat inside.

In-Flight Experience

Now it took me a minute to figure it out, but none of the seats recline. Not even a millimeter. My flight was short so it wasn’t too much of a problem, but I can see for others. And even though they don’t recline, there was ample leg room for me. I must note, I am only 5’4.

Destination Variety

One of the greatest perks of flying with RyanAir is their extensive network of destinations across Europe and beyond. From my local airport in Valencia, I had options to travel to throughout Europe and Northern Africa. Some of these cities are hidden gems off the beaten path, their routes will awaken your inner explorer and leave you yearning for more adventures. Whether you’re dreaming of a romantic getaway in Paris, an island escape to Mallorca, or a cultural immersion in Krakow, RyanAir can take you there at a fraction of the cost.

Inflight Food

RyanAir doesn’t offer complimentary meals on board, or even water. They do have a selection of tasty snacks and beverages available for purchase. My advice is to only buy if you are in desperate need. For me, I purchased water since I tend to get dehydrated on flights. For my return flight I made sure to get a drink prior to boarding.

If you’re seeking affordable adventures that take you to the skies without draining your bank account, RyanAir is your ticket to thrill. With unbeatable base rates and a vast network of destinations to explore, this budget airline allows you to unleash your inner explorer. Just remember to navigate those upcharges wisely, pack light, and embrace the joy of affordable travel.
