If you’re anything like me, you know that solo travel as a millennial woman can be both exhilarating and transformative. Recently, I had the opportunity to jet off from my month-long stay in Valencia, Spain, and explore the vibrant city of Marrakesh, Morocco. Trust me, those four days were nothing short of magical, and I’m here to spill all the tea (or should I say mint tea?) on how you can plan your very own adventure.

Getting Lost in the Medina

Navigating the narrow streets in Old Town Marrakesh.

My journey began in the heart of Marrakesh, within the historic Medina. The narrow, winding streets are a sensory overload, with colorful markets, the aromatic scent of spices, and the sounds of locals haggling over their wares. I quickly discovered that getting lost in the labyrinthine alleyways was all part of the adventure. It’s a place where you can truly immerse yourself in the local way of life. Don’t forget to barter for souvenirs and indulge in freshly squeezed orange juice from the street vendors – it’s a must!

Taking in Jemaa el-Fnaa Square

Enjoying mint tea in Old Town Marrakesh’s famous central square.

One of the highlights of my trip was dining in Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, the epicenter of Marrakesh’s culinary scene. As a solo traveler, this bustling square was a dream come true. From sizzling skewers of kebabs to steaming plates of couscous, there’s no shortage of delectable Moroccan dishes to try. And the best part? You can dine al fresco while soaking in the vibrant street performances and music.

Must-Visit Sights

Marrakesh is brimming with historical and cultural gems. The Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, and the Saadian Tombs are absolute must-visits for any history buff. And don’t forget to wander through the serene and picturesque Majorelle Garden, a true oasis of calm amidst the city’s hustle.

My Two Cents

Calm pedestrian street in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Marrakesh stole my heart with its blend of tradition and modernity, and I’m convinced it’ll do the same for you. As a solo traveler, I couldn’t have asked for a more enchanting destination. So, whether you’re strolling through the labyrinthine Medina, savoring tagine under the stars, or simply sipping tea in a peaceful Riad courtyard, Marrakesh promises a memorable adventure that’s worth every moment.

Get out there and explore this captivating city – your inner wanderlust will thank you!
