The thrill of exploring new travel destinations across Europe, savoring exotic cuisines, and jetting off to far-flung locales all by way of a budget airline!
As a travel enthusiast and self-proclaimed foodie, I recently embarked on a journey with the exciting new budget airline, “Play,” ready to indulge in the best of both worlds. Read my firsthand review of my flight experience with Play Airlines, where low prices meet unexpected upcharges!
Now I have been on budget-airline international flights, such as Southwest Airlines and even the short-lived WOW airlines. So, I was eager to try this new airline out of Baltimore. The best part, a built-in day trip to Iceland on both ends of my journey before and after my trip to Spain.
Cheap Base Rate, Beware the Upcharges: Play Airlines’ pricing model is designed to attract budget-conscious travelers. The base rates are undeniably wallet-friendly, making it an appealing option for explorers on a budget. However, as with any budget airline, it’s crucial to be aware of the potential upcharges that can catch you off guard. If you were to select all the possible upgrades you would be left with a higher price than the traditional all-inclusive ticket.
Setting the Stage: From the moment I stepped into the airport, Play Airlines exuded a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, nowhere did I feel like I was travelling on a budget airline. Decked out in their stylish purple uniforms, the friendly cabin crew greeted me with a contagious enthusiasm that set the tone for the journey ahead. The sleek and modern aircraft boasted playful touches, reminding me that travel is all about embarking on a memorable adventure.
Unraveling the Upcharges: Play Airlines adopts an à la carte approach, where additional services and amenities come at an extra cost. While this might raise a few eyebrows, it’s not necessarily a deal-breaker. By keeping a close eye on these upcharges and making wise choices, you can still enjoy a cost-effective journey without breaking the bank.
Savvy Tips to Minimize Upcharges:
- Pack Smart: Play Airlines allows a single carry-on bag free of charge. So, travel light and avoid unnecessary baggage fees.
- Snacks from Home: Instead of purchasing in-flight snacks, why not pack your own tasty treats? Trust me, a well-stocked snack bag can save you a pretty penny.
- Plan Your Seat Selection: If securing the perfect seat is essential to you, consider pre-booking. But if you’re flexible, the luck of the draw during check-in might just work in your favor.
Seating: I decided to my ticket purchase to upgrade my seat to one of the first rows with roomier seats and additional legroom. Good thing I did, and others did not. I am assuming because of the additional costs people opted out. So, I got to travel multiple legs, 10-hour stop in Iceland, with no middle seat passenger. I don’t know about you, but if there is no middle seat, I feel like I am in first class.
It’s clear that with a little strategic planning and mindful choices, this budget airline can be an excellent option for cost-conscious international travelers. Embrace the cheap base rate, navigate the potential upcharges, and get ready for an adventure that won’t empty your wallet.
